2017 Keynote Speaker: Heather Kampf, the University of Minnesota's most decorated women's track athlete

Heather Kampf 2017 OFC Speaker SeriesHeather will provide running inspiration at two sessions during the OFC Speaker Series Oct. 21. One will be geared to kids at 1:30 p.m. prior to the KidsK races. During the second session at 2:30 p.m., she will present “Getting Back Up After You Fall Down” to adult audiences.

Heather is a 2005 graduate of Rosemount High School, where she received the Minnesota Class AA state title in the women’s 800-meter and the 400. At the U of M, she was the only runner to compete in every NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. She was a nine-time All American, the NCAA Indoor Champion in 2006 in the 800 and contributed to the Gophers' six Big Ten Conference Team Titles between 2006 and 2009. Heather has competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials and is a four-time U.S. Champion in the Road Mile to earn herself the nickname "Queen of the Road Mile". In 2014, Heather qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Poland, where she was a finalist in the 1500.

Most recently, she placed second in the two-mile and third in the mile at the 2017 U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships. In addition to her professional running career, Heather works part-time at Mill City Running in northeast Minneapolis, coaches Apple Valley Girls Cross Country, and offers private coaching to individual runners.


The 2017 OFC Speaker Series includes the following tentative schedule of additional speakers:

  • 12:30 to 1 p.m.: Mayo Clinic Health System's Anne Harguth, RDN, and Dr. Kristen Steidl "Feeling your best on race day: Crucial nutrients for before and after"
  • 1:30 to 2 p.m.: Heather Kampf's children session
  • 2 to 2:30 p.m.: Dr. Scott Stevens, Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Specialist at the Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic
  • 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.: Heather Kampf "Getting Back Up After You Fall Down"
