Mankato Marathon Proceeds with Significant Changes – July 24, 2020

Social Distance Race

The Mankato Marathon Team has been working hard looking at all options and modifications to provide a safe event. We have had to make some tough decisions and changes that I want to share with you.

We made the very tough and disappointing decision to make the Full Marathon and Relay virtual race only. This decision was not made lightly as we looked at the needed course support, the increased time it would take to hold this race with the added modifications and social distance requirements needed to meet current guidelines.

We understand that not everyone is comfortable at this time to run in person so runners will now have a virtual option for all races. This allows runners to run their race at their comfort level. If this option appeals to you, you may switch your registration to the virtual option at no additional cost. Choose your course, start time and any day between October 12-26th. To transfer to a virtual race please log into your active.com account here.

As much as we love to see all our future runners, with safety in mind we have canceled the Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash.

We have also decreased the size of our Scheels Sport & Health Expo and moved it to the River Hills Mall and will have packet pick up options on Thursday and Friday, October 15-16, time TBA.

Alternative course options are also being considered for all other races in order to accommodate the safest event for all involved.

With that said, we are working closely with race directors statewide as guidance is being developed for running events and our team continues to work with the City of Mankato and our medical partners as we look at all the options to continue to hold an in person Half, 10K, 5k and KidsK. It is our greatest hope that we are able to accommodate the strong desires of our running community and host in person races this year. We will keep you informed as details are refined in this fluid environment.

Thank you for your understanding and support,
